- תָּרַם(denom. of תְּרוּמָה) to lift, 1) to remove (ashes), clear the altar (Lev. 6:3). Yoma II, 1 בראשונה כל מי שרוצה לִתְרוֹם … תּוֹרֵם formerly whosoever wanted to remove the ashes from the altar, could do it. Ib. 2 התקינו שלא יהו תוֹרְמִיןוכ׳ it was arranged that they should clean the altar only by lot. Y. ib. 39b bot. זר שת׳ if an outsider removed the ashes. Tarn. I, 2; 4; a. e. 2) to separate the priestly gift, to make Trumah. Ter. I, 1 חמשה לא יִתְרוֹמוּ ואם תָּרְמוּוכ׳ five persons should not make Trumah, and if they did , v. תְּרוּמָה. Ib. התּוֹרֵם את שאינו שלו he that separates Trumah from what does not belong to him. Ib. נכרי שת׳ את של ישראל if a gentile makes Trumah of what belongs to an Israelite. Ib. 4 אין תורמין זיתים על השמןוכ׳ you cannot consecrate olives as Trumah for oil, or grapes for wine.
